This is the day two live blog for 49ers free agency. It is updated regularly.
The NFL Free Agency’s open contact phase began Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time. As a reminder, teams can negotiate with free agents; however, the contracts will only become official on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the beginning of the new league year
Day 1: It didn’t take long for the 49ers to make waves. San Francisco agreed former Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Javon Hargrave to a four-year, $84 million deal with $40 million guaranteed at signing.
Later in the day, the 49ers picked up a quarterback and agreed to a one-year contract with Sam Darnold. The contract structure is very similar to the one they gave Jimmy Garoppolo last year. The base value is $4.5 million, but Darnold can earn up to $11.5 million due to game time incentives.
San Francisco brought back free safety Tashaun Gipson on a one-year, $2.9 million deal and settled Kevin Givens on a one-year, $2.1 million deal. Givens joins Colton McKivitz as restricted free agents and re-signs with the team.
Day 2: Loud Ian Rapport from NFL Network, the 49ers have agreed a new deal with center Jake Brendel. The four-year deal has a maximum value of $20 million with an $8 million guarantee.
Brendel’s athleticism makes this a good deal for the 49ers, who now have all the holes along the offensive line filled before the draft.
San Francisco also began restructuring contracts to open Cap Space.
The team revised the contract of Charvarius district Raising $9.984 million in Cap Space. To accomplish this, the 49ers shifted $12.298 million from Ward’s salary from 2023 to 2025, which is currently a blank year. As it currently stands, this is going to be a dead cap.
12:00 p.m.: Emmanuel Moseley won’t be back with the 49ers. The cornerback has agreed a one-year, $6 million deal with the Detroit Lions, according to Adam Schefter.
Moseley was a great player who just couldn’t stay healthy. The former undrafted free agent missed 22 games in the last three seasons through injury.
Deommodore Lenoir’s strong play probably also contributed to the 49ers not retrieving Moseley. Lenoir allowed a passer rating of just 84.0, better than Charvarius Ward.
