Riley Tate Wilson – 15 – Montgomery, AL – “Dancing On My Own”
Riley’s first few soulful tones immediately earn him Niall, Blake, and Kelly while Chance waits. Kelly offers a “Woo!” just before Riley’s next beautiful note, gets a chance to spin!
Kelly is shocked to hear he’s only 15, while Niall calls it the best audition they’ve ever seen. Recalling what it was like auditioning for a reality TV show when he was 15, Niall says if he could get Riley to sing the song again, he’d never do it the same way again. Kelly says she became light years ahead of the rest and recalls her own journey as a young person on a reality TV show. Chance calls him insanely talented and praises his impromptu runs. Blake assumes he’s Riley’s fourth pick but says if Riley picks him he’ll stop training after this season (lol). Riley chooses Team Niall.
Jamar Langley – 36 – Andrews, SC – “Try Me”
Jamar offers some unique notes and a different soulful tone, but it takes time to convince trainers. It’s a falsetto note near the end that causes Chance and Blake to turn their chairs.
Blake says he’s a perfect example of not giving up because it didn’t start well but then turned great. Chance says Jamar could go far with his tone and he found he was proud of himself. Kelly says she doesn’t train nerves well and she felt nerves started out. Niall congratulates him beforehand Jamar chooses Team Chance.
Allie Keck – 28 – Nashville, TN – “Paris (Ooh La La)”
Allies gave this rock song a deep, grungy tone that makes Blake flip. The other three judges remain in their chairs, but a final growl causes Kelly to turn her chair.
Niall says he rocked like hell promoting Blake while Kelly defends herself as a fellow singer. Calling her a powerhouse with a Janis Joplin vibe and the only rock ‘n’ roll artist on the show to date, Kelly loves that it’s a woman. Blake says there’s so much to learn about her and wants to blow it out one last time. Chance says her voice literally sounded like an electric guitar. Allie chooses Team Kelly.
Jayda Klink – 23 – Cincinnati, OH – “No Air”
Jayda turns Jordin Sparks’ “No Air” into a beautiful ballad with a delicate tone in her voice, but halfway through the song, the coaches have to turn their chairs. No one turned around on her last note.
Blake says he didn’t spin because the performance was “loose” and didn’t end up in the bag. Niall thought it was a nervous start but he has an incredible voice. Chance says to keep doing what she’s doing. Kelly says she has potential and needs more experience.
Walker Wilson – 24 – Nashville, Tennessee – “Hurricane”
Walker sings with a Southern accent, a roughness in his voice that makes Blake turn around almost instantly. He didn’t hit every note perfectly, but enough to get a standing O out of Niall.
Blake says he’s damn proud to have Walker on his team. Niall says Blake was in it the minute Walker started. Chance says he has a distinct voice before Walker tells him he saw him in Bonnaroo a few years ago. Kelly says she would have turned if no one else had. Walker joins Team Blake.
Ali – 24 – California – “Kills me gently with his song”
Ali talks about being born deaf in her package and says she may not be able to hear every part of the music, but she can feel it. She has a very unique tone and voice that flows throughout the song. Kelly and Chance turn around at the same time. You can hear a uniqueness in her voice as she sings that just makes the song her own.
Kelly says she has a gift. Niall says that despite the adversities in her life, she breaks hurdles. Blake says she’s the last singer he would consider hearing impaired. Kelly says the edits she made to the song are “Ali.” Chance says he’s stunned to find out she’s hard of hearing and works with many people in the deaf and hard of hearing community. Ali chooses…. and commercial! Ali chooses Team Chance.
Manasseh Samone – 22 – Dallas, TX – “Rise Up”
Manasseh recalls not having a bowel movement in her audition last season before singing this powerful song. Manasseh is only a few notes in when Chance swivels his chair.
Kelly stands up and claps when she learns that Manasseh is from Texas. Chance thinks they’re all crazy for not turning around and calls bringing Manasseh on his team the show’s biggest blessing so far. Kelly believes she has engaged in a tug-of-war between technique and passion. Niall says he held back because Chance was so excited. Manasseh joins Team Chance.
Jerome Godwin III – 20 – Montgomery, AL – “pov”
All four coaches look mesmerized by Jerome as he sings, but a note in the middle causes Niall and Kelly to turn their heads at the same time. Jerome has this beautiful Broadway tone in his voice as he finishes the song.
Chance calls his voice great and says that despite some hectic moments, he loves his lower register. Kelly says she hopes he never loses his passion and desire and compliments his smile. Niall says he turned around the moment he “went over there”. Jerome chooses Team Niall.
EJ Michels – 31 – Clothmaker, UT – “Easy On Me”
EJ starts singing and is even hidden from the audience while singing this ballad in a beautiful high pitched voice. It’s not technically perfect, but Chance and Blake end up turning around.
Chance says he realized he was an instrumentalist before he saw him play the piano. Blake says his voice is raw and honest, and sometimes imperfections make the listener feel connected. Kelly says she didn’t expect EJ to look like him singing a female powerhouse song. Niall says he regrets not turning around. EJ chooses Team Blake.
Sophia Hoffman – 18 – California – “Amor Eterno”
Sophia sings this Spanish song beautifully and Kelly teases her hand over the button but ultimately no one flips their chairs.
Blake comments on the other three hovering over their buttons while Niall apologizes for not turning around. Chance says it was fire and hopes she sticks with it. Kelly says he has an incredible tone and encourages her to choose a song that shows the range of her voice next time.
Laura Littleton – 26 – Dickson, TN – “Signs of the Times”
Laura lends this folk/country touch to this Harry Styles ballad. Blake, Kelly and Niall all turn their chairs over, but Kelly blocks Blake. Laura has a very shaky voice, which suits her style perfectly.
Niall says he already loves her while Kelly says it matches her energy. Blake says he wishes he could have had her on his team. They all applaud Laura’s speech about how people walk away from auditions with more confidence and as better people. Kelly says she loves her so much that she used her only block on her. Niall says she looks and sounds like she loves it and loves the natural shakes she has. He also says it was a great song choice and Kelly comments that Niall has a connection to the original singer. Chance says he regrets not turning around and if he had seen her stage presence he would have turned. Laura chooses Team Niall.
