High Street United Methodist Church, 230 E. High St., will host a central communal kitchen from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. today, serving hot meals indoors.

Homebuyer Class
Greater Springfield’s Neighborhood Housing Partnership is hosting virtual homebuyer education classes today from 6-8 p.m. via Zoom.
The class is taught by NHP staff and local experts. Topics include steps in the homebuying process, building good credit, budgeting, home inspections, applying for a mortgage loan, working with a realtor, avoiding predatory lenders, and more.
The course fee is $50 and scholarships are available based on income. To register, email information@springfieldnhp.org with your name, phone number, number of people in your household, and address. You will receive an email with a link to the virtual course.

Christ Church Food Pantry, 409 E. High St., will host a food pantry distribution Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or until all food is distributed. Customers should bring a valid ID.
Open day of the library department
The New Carlisle Library is hosting an open house for the new Department of Youth Services on Wednesday from 3pm to 4.30pm. Children and young people have the opportunity to leave their handprint on the new mural, build a puppet show, complete a goblin scavenger hunt and explore the new space.

Developmental Disabilities of Clark County (Clark DD) and the Springfield Community Navigators invite those interested in turning their artistic talent into a business to the upcoming “Art Start-Up” Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. in the COhatch Community Room, 101 S Fountain Ave. This event is free and open to the public.
Clark DD Community Navigator Marty Fagans will host the event, which will feature a group of local artists with their own businesses. Panel members include Debra Gaskill, Checkered Flag Fibers; Peter Hrinko, Hrinko Art & Design; and Casey Luther, Fireside Pottery. Each panel member will share their company’s story, including how it got started, obstacles they’ve overcome, and the ups and downs of owning an art business, followed by a question-and-answer session.

Documentary screening
A documentary created by award-winning director Conrad Weaver, a 1988 graduate of Cedarville University, will be screened for free at The John Legend Theater on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. and presented by the CitiLookout Counseling And Trauma Recovery Center.
Weaver spent several years researching and collecting the stories of first responders affected by PTSD for his documentary PTSD911, which tells the story of first responders suffering from PTSD.
The film will be followed by a Q&A with the director, Weaver and special guests including local first responders who will share their experiences and perspectives on PTSD.

The Champaign County Community Blood Drive will be held Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Champaign County Community Center, 1512 South US 68 in Urbana.
The South Charleston Community Blood Drive will be held Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Clark County Public Library Houston Branch Common Room at 5 W. Jamestown St.
Everyone who registers to donate by March 18th will receive the Lucky Donor shamrock t-shirt. Blood donation requirements are the presentation of a photo ID that includes their full name. Former CBC donors are also asked to bring their CBC donor card, be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds (you may need to weigh more depending on your height) and be in good physical condition .
Book author event
Beth Macy, an Urbana native and New York Times bestselling author of “Factory Man,” “Truevine,” and “Dopesick” (the inspiration for the Peabody Award-winning Hulu limited series), will be at the Champaign County Library to talk about her recent book “Raising Lazarus: Hope,” Justice, and the Future of America’s Overdose Crisis, Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room at 1060 Scioto St. This program is free and open to the public.
Raising Lazarus is a sequel to Dopesick; However, it is more hopeful and sheds a light on ordinary people trying to make a difference.
Macy will be signing autographs and meeting with the public after the program. The Friends of Champaign County Library will have copies of Dopesick and Raising Lazarus available for purchase.
