Missy Robertson reflects on God’s presence at a Kirk Cameron Library event

From Movieguide® staff

DUCK DYNASTY’s Missy Robertson recently spoke about the setback she, Kirk Cameron and Brave Books experienced at a public library event.

Her father-in-law Phil Robertson shared his thoughts on the event.

“The bad guy wanted to plot and disrupt when Missy Robertson and Kirk Cameron were reading at a children’s public library,” Robertson wrote on Instagram. “Kirk’s book is about love, joy and gentleness, and Missy’s book is about family and unconditional love, to the point of tears!”

Movieguide® previously covered this event in Hendersonville, Tennessee, which included Cameron, Missy Robertson, Bethany Hamilton and Riley Gaines.

This reading is part of Cameron’s ongoing Freedom Island book tour, which aims to “win back the hearts and minds of America’s children.”

“This thing is just growing,” he explained. “It’s like this tiny little mustard seed growing into this giant tree – and pretty soon it’s going to fill the whole nation. It’s really exciting because when the guards mobilize, celebrities and politicians love to come out and show their support – and now the tide finally seems to be turning.”

He divided that “thousands upon thousands of parents and grandparents and politicians and teachers and so many others join us at every stop.”

While the local community was excited about the event, Robertson shared on the Unashamed podcast how library staff attempted to disrupt the event before it began.

One employee “started a campaign in the community to have it shut down without officially announcing it, knowing then that it wouldn’t be good for their library,” Robertson shared.

When Cameron, Robertson, and Gaines tried to film some marketing videos for Brave Books, “the staff roared and laughed and slapped books and [being] really disturbing.”

At that moment Robertson 1 Peter 5:8 came to mind. It reads: “Be self-controlled and vigilant. Your enemy the devil roams like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

Robertson added that no one “can be prey and more vulnerable than a child.

“[The library staff] I don’t want them to hear about the family’s unconditional love and forgiveness,” she added. “These are taught by us and written in our hearts by the one who made us and loves us more than anything in the world.”

They “frustrated” messages about the fruits of the Spirit and “how to overcome your fear to achieve your goals and become what God wants you to be.”

Despite the attacks, Phil Robertson added in his post that Jesus himself was present at the event “while the wicked one roamed”.

“There were hundreds of other people on the sidewalk down the street in the rain holding their children and waiting to get in,” added Missy Robertson.

She shared that the readings touched both the children and their parents.

“We have to make sure our voices are as loud or louder than theirs because there were very few of those people in the library compared to hundreds…[possibly] Thousands . . . who came that day, and these are the ones who want the best for their children according to what the Lord has written on their hearts,” Robertson said.

It “just takes a few loud, obnoxious, immoral people to try to put a damper on it and stop it, and we just can’t let it happen for the good of our kids,” she concluded. “We have to get up”

Phil Robertson concluded by reflecting on Jesus’ words at Matthew 19:14: “Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for such as these belong to the kingdom of heaven.'”

Movieguide® has already reported on this event:

Kirk Cameron will travel to Hendersonville, Tennessee for a special patriotic book reading that will also be attended by other stars including Missy Robertson, Riley Gaines and Bethany Hamilton.

This reading is part of Cameron’s ongoing Freedom Island book tour, which aims to “win back the hearts and minds of America’s children.”

“This thing is growing right now,” he explained. “It’s like this tiny little mustard seed growing into this giant tree – and pretty soon it’s going to fill the whole nation. It’s really exciting because when the guards mobilize, celebrities and politicians love to come out and show their support – and now the tide finally seems to be turning.”

He shared that “thousands and thousands of parents and grandparents and politicians and school teachers and so many others join us at every stop.”

He expects thousands to attend this reading, including DUCK DYNASTY star Robertson, women’s sports advocate Gaines and pro surfer Hamilton – the inspiration behind SOUL SURFER, winner of the 2012 Movieguide® award for Best Family Movie.

“[Hamilton has] She’s been all over the news for standing up for what’s right and overcoming the fear of rejection, so she’s going to share her message with the kids,” Cameron said.

In addition to Cameron’s reading, Robertson will read from her book Because You’re My Family, and Cameron shared that he will lead the crowd in a “great patriotic prayer”, the national anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance.

“It is so beautiful to see so many movements happening, perhaps by providence, leading the nation back to its founding principles,” he added.

“If you wake up, you’re going broke — morally, spiritually and politically.” Cameron shared. “And perhaps this is the hand of God waking people up so that loving army of compassion will reclaim the hearts and minds of our children.”
