Return 2023 with Dr. Fetus’ Mean Meat Machine Returns to the Super Meat Boy Universe on PlayStation – PlayStation.Blog

Blog

Hello, I’m Tommy Refenes. You may know me from games like Super Meat Boy and Super Meat Boy Forever. I’m excited to announce that the Meat Boy universe will be coming later this year in the form of a brand new title called Dr. Fetus’ Mean Meat Machine returns to PlayStation!

Meat Boy has had enough games (for now). Now it’s time that Dr. fetus becomes a star. dr Fetus’ Mean Meat Machine takes place right after the events of Super Meat Boy Forever (right after the end, before the post-credits scene to be exact). dr Fetus wants to make clones of Meat Boy and he needs to sort out all the crappy clones from the gene pool to get pure perfect killable Meat Boys. I wonder what dr. Fetus with an infinite supply of Meat Boys would make…hmmm…probably a question for another time.

Circular saws, lasers, missiles and other hazards

In practice, this means a Puyo Puyo-style match-four puzzler with a unique hardcore twist thanks to the devious inventions of the nefarious Dr. Fetus. As you attempt to get your color-coded clones to the bottom of the screen and create combos, you’ll have to contend with buzz saws, missiles, and a variety of other hazards that are primed to destroy your clones if you don’t play with the precision , which the Super Meat Boy series has always demanded. In other words, what we call Mean Meat Machine from Dr. Making Fetus is the hardcore challenge that Meat Boy is known for creating a unique blend of puzzle and action gameplay.

Return 2023 with Dr. Fetus' Mean Meat Machine returns to the Super Meat Boy universe on PlayStation

The genesis of this game stems from a longstanding relationship between Team Meat and our friends at Headup. We have been working together in various capacities for almost 12 years and we love them. So when they approached us with this idea for a match 4 puzzler, we were pretty busy getting Super Meat Boy Forever out there, but after that was out we looked at their pitch and prototype and fell in love again. We’ve merged their design and programming skills – mainly Niko Panagiotopoulos and Mark Aldrup – with our art and design skills, and now we have this incredibly fun and beautiful puzzle game that we would never have even considered if it wasn’t for their amazing prototypes and her wish would have been something new and great.

It’s time to enjoy dying again

The game has over 100 handcrafted levels full of dangers and traps that will test your puzzle-solving spirit along with your finger reflexes. It’s a game set in the Meat Boy universe, so expect to die – over and over again. When you’ve finally died enough, your skills will become second nature and you’ll start beating levels with no more effort than taking a single, simple breath. You will feel fulfilled. You will feel… whole. At this point you will then have to fight a boss that will keep killing you. You will know death. It’s a lot of fun and pretty cute too!

If you’re already a fan of Meat Boy, firstly thank you and secondly, Dr. Fetus’ Mean Meat Machine have a lot to please you. We have a whole host of well-known Super Meat Boy and Super Meat Boy Forever locations such as the scenic forest, hospital and salt factory, all with dazzling backgrounds, animations and cutscenes created by the original Super Meat Boy Forever artists. We also have an incredible soundtrack created by the talented Ridiculon.

It was fun to see Meat Boy take a new direction in collaboration with a team that showed us a possibility for the series that we never thought of. The result is a game that exists in a well-known genre, but at the same time is like no other game in this genre. The move of injecting Super Meat Boy’s beefy hardcore DNA into a match-four puzzler is one that few of you probably expected (damn, we weren’t expecting it when Headup first looked at the came up with an idea!). But believe me, it was a crazy idea to work and I can’t wait for you all to try Dr. Fetus itself when the game launches on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 later this year.
