Toradex expands its successful Verdin System-on-Module portfolio with a new addition powered by Texas
March 7th, 2023, Horw, Switzerland: Toradex, a leading provider of embedded system solutions, announced the launch of its Verdin AM62 System on Module (SoM), based on the AM62x processor from Texas Instruments™ (TI). This new module focuses on usability, connectivity and scalability for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Human-Machine Interaction (HMI) and gateway applications.
Toradex’s focus on innovation, industry-leading support and the lowest lifecycle cost of products has long set the company apart. His offers often go beyond the basic requirements and aim at a future-proof solution for his customers. The addition of AM62x processors to the established Toradex Verdin SoM family demonstrates the company’s continued focus on adding value to customers and their projects.
Toradex started with extensive research and input from its customers in markets such as Industrial Automation, Healthcare, Smart City, Transportation, and Test & Measurement. It was found that while the Verdin form factor offers an excellent fit, even more applications would benefit from a lower power, lower cost SoM, expanding the pin-compatible Verdin family at the lower end. When evaluating possible processors for a new Verdin SoM product, Toradex didn’t just consider features and price. Selection criteria also included long-term product reliability, Linux support strategy, enterprise-wide manufacturing capabilities, and more; all to offer its customers the lowest lifetime product cost.
Product lifecycle costs include not only the cost of the SoM alone, but also the time and resources required to bring a product to market and the associated maintenance costs. With new upcoming regulations like the EU Cyber Resilience Act, continuous maintenance of best practice software becomes a requirement – which makes it all the more imperative.
“We are excited about the latest addition – the Verdin AM62 System on Module – to our successful product portfolio. We have found an excellent complement to Texas Instruments processors and believe this will underpin our goal of providing our customers with the best experience for their diverse application needs. Toradex’s focus remains on creating value for our customers while maintaining ease of use and reducing their time to market. We look forward to continuing to improve and expand our offering of full-stack embedded solutions,” said Samuel Imgrueth, CEO of Toradex.
The Verdin AM62 is available with Torizon – an easy-to-use industrial Linux platform that modernizes the development and delivery of Linux-based products. The combination of the AM62 with Torizon provides a reliable and secure full-stack embedded computing platform, including a serviced and tested Linux distribution, IDE integration, OTA remote updates, device monitoring and remote access to increase the overall value of the increase product life.
Toradex’s Verdin family of products is designed to provide scalability via software and pin-compatible modules. Other Verdin SoMs include the Verdin iMX8M Mini and the iMX8M Plus. Verdin’s peripheral interfaces are optimized for today’s industrial IoT and gateway applications, including Gigabit Ethernet, PCIe, CAN FD, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Reference designs with extensive documentation simplify the creation of your individual carrier board.
